The predecessor of the School of Quality Education, the Basic Public Courses Department, was founded in February 2004. Its main responsibilities included teaching and research on public basic courses for the entire university, Chinese language teaching and student management for international students, physical health tests for all students, organizing various sports activities on and off campus, and administering Putonghua proficiency tests for all teachers and students.The Department of Physical Education was established in June 2010. It currently offers the Recreational Sports major, which began admitting students in 2010 and has graduated twelve cohorts. Its main functions include the development of the Recreational Sports major and its curriculum, conducting physical health tests for all students, and organizing various sports activities for students on and off campus. In accordance with the decision of the university’s Party and administrative meetings, the Basic Public Courses Department and the Department of Physical Education operated under a joint administrative structure.
In March 2023, upon deliberation by the President’s Office and approval by the Party Committee of the university, the former Basic Public Courses Department (Department of Physical Education) was renamed the School of Quality Education. In December 2024, the Department of Physical Education became independent as the School of Physical Education.
The School of Quality Education has a high-quality teaching team with excellent professional competence, rich teaching experience, a rational structure of academic qualifications and professional titles, and proficiency in modern educational technology. It currently has 46 faculty and staff members, including 3 college administrators, 39 full-time teachers and 4 administrative staff. Among them are 5 professors, 18 associate professors, 16 lecturers and 7 teaching assistants. The school has 1 academic and technological leader of Leshan City, 2 reserve candidates for academic and technological leaders of Leshan City, 6 key teachers, 2 holders of doctoral degrees and 23 holders of master’s degrees.
The school has 12 teaching and research offices, covering Chinese, English, Mathematics, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Literacy Education, Aesthetic Literacy Education, Information Technology Literacy, Career Development and Employment Guidance, Mental Health Education, Labor Education, College Students’ Safety Education, and Military Theory. It also houses the university’s Language Training Center and Putonghua Proficiency Test Station.
