Time:2018-04-24

From April 21 to April 30, the 2018 "Charming Sichuan China-Europe Tour" Higher Education Exhibition, organized by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, was held in Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Representatives from 16 universities in Sichuan Province, led by Li Guanghua, Deputy Secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee for Education, participated in the exhibition in these three Central European countries. Huang Xiaoli, Director of the Party (College) Office and International Cooperation Office, and Fu Wanyi, an officer from the International Cooperation Office, represented our college at the exhibition.

Our college's representatives attended the opening ceremonies of the education exhibitions in the capitals of Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic. They visited universities such as Karoli Gaspar University in Hungary, Warsaw University and Vistula University in Poland, and the Czech University of Life Sciences. They introduced our college to these institutions and discussed potential cooperation. They also set up booths in the three countries to provide detailed information about our college's basic situation, major offerings, international student admission policies, and scholarship programs to foreign students, faculty, university representatives, and embassy officials who came to consult. Their efforts received widespread attention from local students, university representatives, and officials from the Chinese embassies in these countries.

Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic are located along the "Belt and Road" and are important members of the "16+1 Cooperation" between China and Central and Eastern European countries. Hungary was one of the first countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with China. In the field of education, there is already a certain foundation for cooperation between some universities in Sichuan and Hungary. Currently, more than 2,000 Chinese students are studying in Hungary, and over 500 Hungarian students are studying in China. Sichuan and Poland have a solid foundation for cooperation in education. The Sichuan Provincial Department of Education signed a cooperation agreement with the Polish-Chinese Education Foundation at the end of 2016. By the end of 2016, a total of 66 Polish international students were studying in Sichuan. The Czech Republic is located in the "heart of Europe." In recent years, with the joint efforts of both sides, there has been frequent high-level interaction between China and the Czech Republic, with continuously strengthened political trust and positive progress in exchanges and cooperation at all levels and in all fields. In the field of education, more than 1,000 Chinese students are currently studying in the Czech Republic, and the number of Czech students studying in China has reached 600, half of whom have received Chinese government scholarships.

At the opening ceremonies of the education exhibitions in the three countries, Li Guanghua, Deputy Secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee for Education and head of the Sichuan education delegation, stated that Sichuan Province places great emphasis on the international development of education, encourages and promotes international cooperation and exchange at all levels and types of schools, actively introduces high-quality foreign resources, and continuously accelerates the development of international student education. He expressed the hope that through this education exhibition and visit, Sichuan can further enhance mutual understanding with Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic, expand pragmatic cooperation in education, encourage active exchanges among young people, think tanks, and universities, and strengthen cooperation and exchanges in areas such as faculty and student exchanges, scientific research cooperation, talent cultivation, and academic exchanges. He hoped to continuously elevate the level of educational exchange and cooperation between Sichuan and the three countries and further consolidate the friendly foundation of people-to-people exchanges between China and the three countries.

As one of the invited universities to participate in the exhibition, our college signed a memorandum of understanding with the Central and Eastern European - China Import and Export Association (CEECHINA) to cooperate in areas such as faculty exchanges and student exchange programs. It also reached a consensus with representatives from the Czech University of Life Sciences on establishing a sister university relationship, faculty and student exchanges, and student transfer programs. The college representatives promoted our college to university and institutional representatives, faculty, and students from Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic who attended the exhibition. They also gained an understanding of the education systems and Chinese language teaching at Confucius Institutes in the three Central European countries, providing important references for future cooperation between our college and these countries. Through this trip, the college gained a preliminary understanding of higher education and the status of educational openness in Central Europe and established a platform for cooperation and channels of communication for future educational exchanges and cooperation in Central Europe.

Moving forward, our college will follow up and advance cooperation with the Central and Eastern European - China Import and Export Association (CEECHINA) and the Czech University of Life Sciences, actively promote faculty and student exchanges, joint degree programs, and other initiatives. It will also maintain contact with university representatives from the three visited countries to explore potential cooperation projects.
