On August 23rd, 2014, twenty teachers from Leshan Vocational and Technical College concluded their 20-day training on the Competency-Based Education (CBE) teaching management system in Canada and returned smoothly.
Our college has always placed great emphasis on the internationalization of the faculty and focused on the cultivation and enhancement of teachers' teaching and research capabilities. Under the impetus of building a provincial-level exemplary vocational college and with the strict approval of the Sichuan Provincial Foreign Experts Bureau, our college selected and sent 20 teachers to Canada this summer to participate in the training on the CBE teaching management system.
During the three weeks in Canada, the teachers visited three regions that are very representative of Canada: Toronto, Quebec, and Vancouver. Leaders and experts from relevant schools in these regions introduced various aspects of Canadian higher education, especially vocational education, through specialized lectures. These aspects included educational management, school admissions, research project applications, educational technology, educational assessment, educational philosophy, and campus culture. Our college's teachers engaged in in-depth discussions with relevant teachers and leaders from the education bureaus and departments on topics such as market demand and curriculum development, employment orientation and revision of teaching plans, management of research funding, and campus culture construction. The teachers highly valued this brief learning opportunity. After each class, they summarized various aspects of local higher vocational education through group discussions and used their spare time to gain a deeper understanding of Canadian culture. They also visited relevant departments of vocational education to supplement their teaching resources.
Finally, Mr. Zhao, the general manager of the American Financial Research Institute, held a graduation ceremony for our teachers who participated in the exchange in Canada and awarded each participant with a certificate of completion.
Through this exchange with three Canadian regions, the teachers not only gained insights into the vocational education management systems and teaching philosophies of different Canadian provinces but also broadened their international perspectives. This experience will significantly promote the improvement of teaching quality, enhancement of research capabilities, and advancement of applied talent education among our college's faculty.
